Garden Fence Installation Project
Behind the scenes look at a professional garden fence installation.
Here is one of our latest garden fence installation projects for a homeowner who had a local landscaper install weed block, dig a trench to bury the metal fence, and create raised beds for their garden. The garden fence is a poly/metal blend fence. The metal fence is 4-ft. tall and buried 1-ft. into the ground. The top portion of the fence is 5’ maximum duty poly fence. The total height of the fence is 7-ft.
Here are some of our favorite go-to tools for installing our deer fencing system. The sledge hammer is used to level and adjust post if needed. The san angelo digging bar helps get our post holes started and the hand held post driver installs posts using our reverse sleeve method with ease. We use a magnetic level to make sure every post is level.

Here is an alignment band with eye collar installed on a 1-5/8” post. Bands are installed on each post and used to thread a support cable through. After the cable is run, the fence is installed and secured to the cable.

The trench is about 2-feet deep, allowing for the metal fence to be buried 1-ft. into the ground to make sure no rodents dig under the fence and cable. The reverse sleeves that the post are installed on are 5-ft and the posts are 7-ft. All of the post are secured about half way up the reverse sleeve with a 1 3/8” clamp that allows all of the posts to be the same height.
Once the posts and bottom and middle cable are installed, the next step is to install the metal fence. This is a 4-ft. metal fence, buried about 1-ft. into the trench. The metal fence is hog ring clipped to the middle and bottom cable. The metal fence shown is a 14-ga. 2” x 2” fence.

The poly fence is the final step in the installation process. This fence is very flexible and stretches. Hog ring clips are used to secure the fence to itself when it is wrapped around the fence posts. UV cable ties are used to secure the fence to the posts.
